Civic Media has built a state-wide radio and digital media network in Wisconsin with the goal of championing the practice of democracy by empowering honest and informative local voices. SUMMARY
The Assistant Program Director works with programming leadership to manage all aspects of programming across our radio stations including but not limited to; managing on-air staff, writing imaging, managing automation software, working with programming to help create revenue opportunities for sales, and coordinating local events with promotions and marketing teams. Enthusiasm and passion for multiple formats is a must. Live remote broadcasts and appearances will be required from time to time. Creativity, forward-thinking, and a growth mindset are important in this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working alongside Program Directors and VP of Programming to help execute programming strategy
- Manage expenses and make the best use of Civic Media assets
- Work with programming leadership to identify opportunities to promote the mission of Civic Media, grow audience and increase sales
- Be the first level of problem solving in the local market
- Report discrepancies, both operational and administrative to the appropriate corporate department
- Write and manage imaging for music formats across Civic Media’s markets
- Coordinate on-air staff, sales staff, promotion and marketing staff for events and listener facing appearances
- Manage time off and vacation requests
- Work alongside the Program Director to pre-approve content for specialty, holiday and weekend programming
- Maintain programming liners to ensure company initiatives are being communicated properly
- Help coach on-air staff
- Voicing commercials for broadcast
- Represent Civic Media’s interests in all markets
- Attending coaching sessions on an ongoing basis
- Local point of contact between staff and corporate leadership
- Create a sense of teamwork in markets among various departments

QUALIFICATIONS
- 4-6 years’ experience in an on-air or programming management position
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask
- Demonstrated leadership ability with a diverse workforce
- Ability to work with community, government, and business leaders
- Understanding of basic technical operations of a radio station
- Understanding of how Operations, News, Sales and Marketing collaborate to create an outstanding product and results
- Able to navigate IT tools (Google Suite, Wide Orbit, Promosuite)
- Understanding of Musicmaster is preferred
- Ability to travel to/from local markets (25%)
