JOB TITLE:  Manager of Engineering

What We’re Looking For:

    Proven Leadership: Experience leading teams in dynamic settings, with a commitment to a 24/7 live news operation serving as a primary point of contact for addressing time-sensitive and complex maintenance or operational issues.  Must maintain on-call availability for emergencies.

    Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of broadcast technologies, including RF systems, IP networking, and digital video/audio tech.  Provide hands-on support for the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of broadcast equipment and systems.

    Strategic Thinker: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate challenges and develop effective solutions.

    Excellent Communicator: Ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

    Innovative Mindset: Experience driving innovation and implementing new technologies.


Qualifications:

    5+ years in broadcast technology, with 3+ years in a leadership role preferred, not required.

    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in broadcasting, electronics, computer science, or related field, preferred, not required.

    SBE and IT certifications are a plus.

    Experience working with and troubleshooting critical broadcast equipment, including:

    Transmission systems

    Studio production systems 

    Control room automation

    Graphics platforms 

    Master control operations

    Strong understanding of IP-based video/audio workflows, networking protocols, and cybersecurity best practices

    Familiarity with newsroom computer systems and media asset management systems 

    Knowledge of HDR and SMPTE 2110 standards

    Experience supporting live remote broadcasts using various delivery technologies

    Demonstrated communication, interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and coach technical staff

    Understanding of industry standards, regulations and compliance requirements

    Ability to identify and troubleshoot basic facilities-related issues (HVAC, plumbing, electrical)

    Strong grasp of capital and operating budgets and procurement process

    Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced, 24/7 broadcast environment

    Experience working in a union environment


Physical Requirements:

    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds 

    Ability to stand, sit, kneel, crouch as needed


Work Schedule:

    Full-time, regular schedule with on-call responsibilities for emergencies

    Occasional travel to transmitter and translator locations

    Flexibility to support operations outside standard business hours when necessary
